Electrolytic conductivity (EC) is a measurement of ability a solution to conduct an electrical charge. EC is commonly used to determine the concentration of salt in a saltwater pool. Saltwater pools use the process of electrolysis to convert the chloride portion of salt to chlorine. It is critical to maintain the ideal level of salt for the efficiency of the electrolytic process. Too little salt will result in too little chlorine being produced. Too much can make the pool unpleasant to swim in.Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is also a commonly measured parameter. A conductivity measurement is used to determine a TDS reading. A 0.5 conversion factor is commonly used for converting EC to TDS.
